Finalist in the 2014 Black Swan Heritage Prize, ' A Balanced View' questions the appropriate balance between the natural heritage of the city and the the built heritage. This tension is highlighted by the rendering of the built environment in a ghostly white skeletal architectural language, which allows the natural environment to be perceived beneath thus allowing a potential glimpse of the natural landscape prior to human intrusion. The foreground crane, a symbol of progress, points ominously onward and yet is also poised in a balance suggesting a scale weighing up the question of such continued progress.
